About this book
Welcome to The Slaughtered Lamb Bookstore and Bar. I’m Sam Quinn, the werewolf book nerd in charge. I run my business by one simple rule: Everyone needs a good book and a stiff drink, be they vampire, wicche, demon, or fae. No wolves, though. Ever. I have my reasons.
I serve the supernatural community of San Francisco. We’ve been having some problems lately. Okay, I’m the one with the problems. The broken body of a female werewolf washed up on my doorstep. What makes sweat pool at the base of my spine, though, is realizing the scars she bears are identical to the ones I conceal. After hiding for years, I’ve been found.
A protection I’ve been relying on is gone. While my wolf traits are strengthening steadily, the loss also left my mind vulnerable to attack. Someone is ensnaring me in horrifying visions intended to kill. Clive, the sexy vampire Master of the City, has figured out how to pull me out, designating himself by personal bodyguard. He’s grumpy about it, but that kiss is telling a different story. A change is taking place. It has to. The bookish bartender must become the fledgling badass.
I’m a survivor. I’ll fight fang and claw to protect myself and the ones I love. And let’s face it, they have it coming.
Really loved the first installment of the Sam Quin Series, The Slaughtered Lamb Bookstore and Bar by Seana Kelly.
This book is a packed Urban Fantasy with a sidetrack to Paranormal Romance for Adults. It is not the writing style that you see in general this book is packed with details and extreme world building with characters you will know soon all about. This book leaves you with no questions. The Slaughtered Lamb Bookstore and Bar is a long read with an amazing kick-ass heroine (Sam) who is a witch/werewolf breed and a male main character, Clive, the sexy vampire Master of the City that is a little on the boring side.
Sam is working in a bar with a Demon, and others pass the bar like a dwarf, succubus and even a gay Dragon shifter.
Despite the book is so packed and events are so tight together there was some wish for some breathing time between events. The romance is OK. In the beginning there was a nice build up for a mysterious dangerous Master of the City. But as soon as he was in speaking terms that disappears (after 7 years of keeping a eye on her?) This could have been a little bit more smooth for my taste. And I missed the dangerous part of the vampire in the last half of the book.
All in all, this was an incredibly promising start of the series. I believe this is going to be addictive series if Seana Kelly can keep the character interesting and maybe show some more from the other characters without drifting from the main storyline. If you love a character driven story with well developed characters full of sass, then give this one a go, you won’t be disappointed! I recommend this book to fans of urban fantasy and paranormal romance.
Note: more installments of this series are following. These books are going to our to-read list. p.s. Trigger warning – there is discussion of rape, and the main character is still suffering from the trauma of being raped.
I received a free copy of THE SLAUGHTERED LAMB BOOKSTORE & BAR (Book 1 of the Sam Quinn Series) by Seana Kelly in exchange for an honest review.
